I'll eventually read it and Erikson's latest in the next few months, but right now, not really all that excited about it.Larry Nolenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16001420558511460998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-700851155622035345.post-3988706459640254452008-08-09T19:36:00.000+02:002008-08-09T19:36:00.000+02:00Interesting review.I've not read either of Esslemo...Interesting review.

I've not read either of Esslemont's books, and I've always been curious about whether he was on the same level as Erikson.

~Aidan
A Dribble of InkAidan Moherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11680602160285884082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-700851155622035345.post-5926103146431525122008-08-09T15:17:00.000+02:002008-08-09T15:17:00.000+02:00Yeah, it's hard to rate a book - especially when y...Yeah, it's hard to rate a book - especially when you have to consider it in the fantasy genre as a whole and as a part of a specific series,shared-world or if you only comapare it to other works of the same author.

S.W.G.
JimAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-700851155622035345.post-58711595885673012952008-08-09T14:29:00.000+02:002008-08-09T14:29:00.000+02:00BlindMan said...Believe me or not, but I've tried....BlindMan said...

Believe me or not, but I've tried.
At first I've thought to give it two appraisals.
First one for being 'malazan' - this one would come to about three fruitcakes. Since no matter how one looks at it the entire Malazan world is still great, even if has been built years ago.
And the second one would be for the overall impresion of the book which would come to no more than 2 f'cakes.
Finaly I've deciced to split the difference and give it 2,5. I do hope Esslemont will take more time with his next work (and hopefully some writing lessons)BlindManhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01682828577566561936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-700851155622035345.post-91072481190875453982008-08-09T11:43:00.000+02:002008-08-09T11:43:00.000+02:00A really negative review!
